Der Mann aus Stahl

Daß er die Ferien bei seiner Tante und seinem Onkel verbringen soll, paßt
dem 13jährigen Victor eigentlich überhaupt nicht. Das wird ein ziemlich
langweiliger Urlaub werden ganz ohne seine Freunde, in dem kleinen Küstenort,
wo die beiden ein Hotel betreiben. Doch dann stellt Victor recht
bald fest, daß das Leben im Hotel so einiges zu bieten hat.

Jedenfalls schließt er schnell neue Bekanntschaften - mit Conchita, dem
mexikanischen Zimmermädchen, und mit Fania, die ebenso alt ist wie er.
Und wenn irgendetwas mal nicht so gut klappt, dann hilft ihm seine Vorstellungskraft.
In seiner Phantasie ist Victor nämlich der "Mann aus Stahl", ein
Mann, der keine Tränen kennt (sonst würde er ja rosten!) und der einfach
unbesiegbar ist. Dann erlebt er auf fremden Planeten aufregende Abenteuer
mit gräßlichen Monstern wie jenem, das ihm seine Phantasie-Fania ent-führt.
Oder er begegnet Traumgestalten wie einer Phantasie-Conchita, die
ihm das Küssen beibringt.

Doch auch in der Wirklichkeit gilt es, Abenteuer zu bestehen. Victors Onkel
hat Schulden und wird von einem Schlägertrupp bedroht. Um ihm zu helfen,
stiehlt Victor Conchitas Ersparnisse, die sein Onkel im Spielcasino vervielfachen
will.

Aber das größte Abenteuer steht Victor noch bevor: herauszufinden, wie
man ein Mädchen in der Wirklichkeit küßt . . .

13-year-old Victor doesn't think much of the fact that he will be spending
the holidays with his aunt and uncle. It's bound to be a fairly boring holiday
in the tiny coastal town where his aunt and uncle run a hotel. What'll he do
without his friends! But Victor soon realises that life in a hotel isn't that dull
after all.
He quickly makes new friends - such as Conchita, the Mexican
chambermaid, and Fania, a girl of the same age as Victor. And whenever
things don't seem to work out they way he wants them to, there's always his
imagination to help him. Victor fantasises that he is the 'Man of Steel', a man
who never cries (he'd only rust away!) and is quite simply invincible. The
Man of Steel experiences all manner of exciting adventures on strange
planets involving horrible monsters, such as the one that kidnaps his fantasy
girl, Fania. At other times he encounters such imaginary figures as the
fantasy woman Conchita, who gives him kissing lessons.

However, there are adventures aplenty in real life, too. Victor's uncle owes
money and is being threatened by a bunch of heavies. Wanting to help,
Victor steals Conchita's savings so that his uncle can carry out his plan to
double them at the casino.

The greatest adventure of all, however, still lies ahead of Victor, namely, to
really find out how to kiss a girl . . .
